Wake up to a sunrise walk over a long bridge that traverses a lush mangrove forest. The morning sun casts a golden glow over every leaf and every grain of sand, lighting up the tidepools that surround the rock formations. The rocks of Biri Island are believed to be five to fifteen million years old, worn down in mysterious ways by the waves and wind of the Pacific. Named Magasang, Magsapad, Macadlaw, Puhunan, Bel-at, Caranas, and Pinanahawan, the cliffs stand sentinel on the shores of Northern Samar, keeping all of the island’s secrets.

This 360-degree immersive sound video puts the viewer right in the center of the action. Experience the sound where they happen—a gushing river to your left, a trickle of water on your right, and the thud of footsteps below.

Recorded using Ambisonics, audio is captured in a 360-degree sphere from the position of the microphone. For best listening results, put on a pair of open back headphones, but any headphones or even earbuds will work. You can also leave this on in the background as unobtrusive, calming noises as you go about your day.

The Department of Tourism invites you to go on an ambient sound trip and experience a destination through the distinct sounds that can be heard when all is quiet. When we travel, we go “sightseeing,” but it is with our ears that we hear and sense things all around us. This is the first in a series of videos that will explore the natural sounds of a place, allowing viewers to tune into nature and be fully present in the moment.
